I loved most of the characters in the book, including the narrator’s cat Cabbage, who is featured on the cover. There is not a single unnecessary sentence, there is no wasted word. Genki Kawamura’s prose is stylish and charming and grabs our attention from the first sentence and doesn’t let go till the last. The story looks deceptively simple on the surface, but there is more to it than meets the eye, because that surface contains hidden depths. In this book, Genki Kawamura takes the Faustian fable, makes the Devil stylish, puts a cat in it, sets the events in contemporary times, and we get a story which is charming, cool, stylish and humorous, but at the same time poignant, sad, insightful and heartbreaking.
